Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie and the tabloid-created nonsense…

By Jennifer J. Dickinson

Have been busy on other assignments while sitting back and watching some Oscar reporting drama unfold.

I’m not sure if by even jumping on my soapbox and writing about this if I’ll be contributing to the recent nonsense reports that are governing the Google Searches for Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie. But I feel in a way it needs to be addressed just to comment on the regurgitated old news attempting to be recirculated by my writing counterparts out there. Granted,  a publicity machine exists, and I’m sure in some ways the stars don’t object to even negative publicity. However, this is a rehash of old and beaten like a dead horse stupidity that’s been going on since the Aniston-Pitt split and Jolie-Pitt merge.

Of course, on Oscar night the cameras were panned in the direction of the stunning Brangelina many times during the evening. And when Aniston took the stage, the camera had to flash over to Jolie laughing and Aniston smiling in her direction in return. Now what was the intent of the camera man/woman? Was it to show that 1- perhaps there was goodwill between the two women, since Jolie appeared to enjoy Aniston’s quips? Or was it to 2 - create the media stir perpetuating the rumors the two women are arch enemies? If it was #1, unfortunately the innocent flash started the paparazzi shark frenzy.

A ridiculous article  which I’ve linked to, initiated a tacky color war between Aniston and Jolie, noting Aniston’s “angelic” white Valentino and Jolie’s “classic black”, describing Jolie as Aniston’s nemesis.  There is a picture of a cherubic-looking Aniston posted but Jolie had no representation, unless one scrolls through and locates a photo of Jolie posted with the most lemon-sucking induced puss on her face.  They had to choose the most unflattering picture of Jolie, while all of the photos of her contemporaries were pleasant and dreamy-looking.

This publication that I’ve linked to is yet another one which attempts a feud, but in a more backhanded fashion. Again, with the side-by-side photos, one looking less flattering than the other…guess whose photo that would be?!!!

And then here’s the snarkiest of reports in which a body language expert was consulted for the play-by-play.  This one especially ripped into Aniston.  Who votes for the writer of this story to throw in the towel altogether?

What a silly attempt for the tabloids to create a story. Both Aniston and Jolie are hardworking, beautiful, intelligent, talented and are heavily involved in charitable work, and Jolie especially with her extensive humanitarian work.

Why did they have to cut over to Jolie when Aniston was onstage?  Why couldn’t they have shown Brad Pitt instead? Is it more exciting for the media to concoct a hair-pulling, dress shredding Bride Wars animosity?

What about the fact that ages ago it was reported that Aniston was cordial enough to congratulate Brangelina on their growing family?

What about just sticking with fresh stories? Isn’t that why it’s called “news”?  Didn’t the Aniston-Pitt-Jolie transition take place in 2005?  Is journalism-land so boring these days?

Here’s to showing a positive and impartial spin on this whole story, with the two ladies each looking beautiful with their beaus (Aniston attended with squeeze John Mayer) on Oscar Night 2009…shouldn’t that be what they all deserve?
